Recognition and Rewards

As part of BRS’ commitment to focus on our staff, we want to continue to recognize our staff for exemplary behaviors and reward them for outstanding performance and dedication to our clients, campus partners, and to each other. We embody a culture of recognition, both informal and formal.

Here's some ways to recognize:

It’s easy to informally recognize someone by taking a moment to personalize and give them a thank you card. Drop by the display at Fourth St. on the 3rd floor, by office #333 and pick up a supply.

If you’d like to reward someone at BRS – for a larger achievement (whether you work at BRS or work at a unit on campus), consider nominating them for a SPOT Award, as part of Berkeley’s Staff Appreciation and Recognition (STAR) Awards Program. It’s easy to nominate someone; just use this nomination form. Nominations should include details about the accomplishments and how it connects to the Operating Principles.

Each BRS region manages the respective awards for their regional staff. If you have questions, contact your Regional Director or your manager/supervisor for information on how regional Award nominations and the process works. Final awards for FY19 were announced in April 2019. Look for news later in the summer about awards for the next fiscal year.

Background information: Spot Awards are part of Berkeley’s “Staff Appreciation and Recognition (STAR) Awards” program. The UC Berkeley Human Resources (HR) website contains a full summary of the Awards, including Criteria & Eligibility, Nomination Form, and FAQ’s.
