Maya Serban

Bio/CV: 

Maya first joined UC Berkeley in 2011 as a Research Administrator. In 2013, she accepted the role of Contracts and Grants Supervisor for Campus Shared Services, supporting various Organized Research Units (ORUs) including The California Institute for Quantitative Biosciences (QB3).

Prior to working at UC Berkeley, Maya was a Program Officer at the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) where she managed United States Agency for International Development (USAID) awards focused on electoral assistance and political finance in developing democracies. Maya earned her BA in History from the University of California, San Diego and a MA in International Affairs - European and Eurasian Studies from the Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University.

In February 2022, Maya was named interim BEST Regional Director (RD) and in this role, she was focused on continuing BEST commitment to provide faculty and staff with the required services in the areas of Human Resources/Academic Personnel Support, Research Administration, and Purchasing & Reimbursements. On August 1, 2022, she was officially named as permanent RD. Maya's leadership team remains the same to continue the great services they provide. 

She is also the proud recipient of the 2021 Excellence in Management Award.
