BRS Central Onboarding service during COVID-19, shelter-in-place orders
The team will continue to provide service to the Berkeley campus with the understanding that staff will be working remotely as per the current campus directive. University Hall, where in-person onboarding sessions are normally held, is currently closed. Here are additional details around onboarding:
Simply speaking, during COVID-19, while in-person onboarding sessions have been suspended, by default, all new hire/rehire paperwork is completed remotely through an online process that includes an improved DocuSign packet and individual video appointments for the I-9 verification.
In-person Benefit Orientations are also suspended at this time. - Currently, UC Police Department (UCPD) is not offering in-person fingerprint appointments. This is anticipated to last until the shelter-in-place directive is lifted.
- When normal campus operations resume, in-person onboarding and I-9 verifications will be re-evaluated, depending on campus conditions and public safety directions received at that time in order to return to in-person sessions.
Here is the typical process once normal campus operations resume
What to expect and what you need to do
1. DocuSign and scheduling your in-person onboarding session
You have been sent a DocuSign packet via email from: email@example.com. Check your spam if you have not received it!
Schedule your onboarding session within 48 hours of receiving the DocuSign packet. Instructions for scheduling are included in the email.
Please complete your DocuSign packet as soon as possible so that we may initiate your hiring information in our system. The sooner the better!
2. Section 1 of your I-9 (Required employment authorization)
You will receive an email from firstname.lastname@example.org(link sends e-mail). Check your spam if you have not received it.
Complete section 1 of your I-9 prior to attending your in-person onboarding session.
3. What to bring to your in-person onboarding session
Valid, original (not copies) of work authorization documents
For a list of acceptable work authorization documentation, please visit this website(link is external).
Please note: this documentation is required by federal law in order to be employed by the University.
4. Transportation and how to get there
Once normal campus operations resume and in-person orientation sessions have been reinstated, you'll go to: University Hall, room 1B (lower level/basement) . The address is 2199 Addison Street, the corner of University Ave. and Oxford St. Here is the link to the Campus Map - search for University Hall under "Buildings".
We recommend public transit! Downtown Berkeley Bart Station is a 10-15 minute walk to University Hall.
Parking on campus requires a permit, and street parking is limited.
